about
A song I co-wrote with my fiancée, Coralie Tringham, to celebrate the spirit of Christmas. Hopefully keeping it alive in spite of this year's events!
lyrics
Tear down the leaves, put back the frost
The autumn is finished, the summer is lost.
Strong trees have grown weary, the pavement is clogged.
The leaves brown and dreary, trees shrouded in fog.
Sunshine has gone, put paid to what’s rosy
It’s time for a season that’s trying to keep cosy.
The Christmas rush rushes, with feet drumming on
The Christmas crowd pushes each other along.
For now we are singing of Christmases past
With beautiful ringing, and a love that will last.
Wrap up and draw close at every Christmas time
Give thanks, love and blessings, for a love yours and mine.
Leaves fall, tears fall as seasons move past us.
Still we are seeking a love to outlast us.
Summer sets, Autumn falls, Winter chills your bones.
Retreat to the warmth, we share in our homes.
Winter stars twinkle in still, silent space.
Guiding our thoughts to a time and a place.
A history lesson that teaches next steps.
Of a wonderful gift, hard to give or accept.
It was cold in the desert, the night drawing in,
For three refugees, trying to outrun a King.
So they fled to the safety of strangers and “foes”.
They waited and waited, for us, I suppose.
Long nights in the cold, just hoping and waiting
Refugees heard good news, of danger abating.
Wrap up and draw close at every Christmas time
Give thanks, love and blessings, for a love yours and mine.

Bill’s childhood was itinerant and tumultuous. Travelling round the globe before he turned seven, his family eventually
settled in Kent, UK. Music and songwriting were interests from an early age, but not till Bill's teenage years did the carousel of hobbies finally come to rest, with a guitar in one hand, drum sticks in the other, and a head full of effervescing dreams of rock & roll symphonies....more
