Though we often look at others and the portraits of their lives
Can seem so much more blissful it’s the viewpoint that’s to blame
There’s no true way of stepping back, surveying from outside
The life you’ve drawn around you when you’re trapped within the frame

Instead you find the details little moments of elation
Those buoyant balloons of happiness for emotional elevation.

A crisp, sweet apple - neither bruised, nor overripe.
Warm, still steaming bread: some crust in every bite
A tall, cool glass of milk. Naturally, full cream.
The waves of aroma as you’re chopping basil, fresh and green.

How many grains of sand, to make a dune?
How many hooks to sell a tune?
How many feathers to make a soft duvet?
How many little moments, does it take to make your day?
How many hairs to make a lion’s mane?
How many errant stones to break a window pane?
You don’t know when these moments will manifest,
So always be alert to taste these drops of happiness.

The sun in the sky when you open your eyes
A cool breeze on a hot day can truly tranquilize
To hear rain on a roof and not feel it on your head
Pink candyfloss clouds in a crimson sky at sunset

How many grains of sand…

A humble apology, graciously received
Supressed frustrations vociferously freed
A smile from a stranger, that says, “We could be friends!”
Or one from an old friend that says, “It’s good to see you, once again!”
